You are required to submit evidence of the following:

  1. Analyse diagrams and calculate requirements according to recommended guidelines to manufacture components using an engineering centre lathe and carbide cutting tools to meet workplace requirements.
  2. Operate and manufacture components using an engineering centre lathe and carbide cutting tools following manufacturer’s instructions and recommended guidelines in accordance with health and safety legislation and workplace requirements.

Instructions

IN YOUR WORKPLACE:  You are required to manufacture two (2) different components operating an engineering centre lathe and carbide cutting tools. The two (2) components must be produced from different materials e.g. stainless steel, mild steel, aluminium, cast iron, bronze, brass, tungsten. You will be required to provide copies of the drawings (to scale) completed by you, your calculations to determine cutting speed and feed rates, a copy of your logbook with five (5) components you have manufactured using the centre lathe with specific details recorded for each components, signed and verified by your supervisor/direct line manager.
