Museum of Transport and Technology

MOTAT Tramway Conductor

Show us you can apply operating and safety procedures as a MOTAT Tram Conductor.

A highlight of a visit to MOTAT is a ride on a vintage tram through Western Springs Park between the museum’s two sites. MOTAT's fleet of carefully restored vintage trams run regularly during opening hours carrying almost 200,000 passengers every year. We have volunteers working on our tramway from all kinds of backgrounds and experience, and we welcome your interest in joining us.

As a Conductor on the MOTAT Tramway you’ll work with the Tram Motorman to provide an excellent experience for all  tram passengers. Visitors consistently rate taking a ride on a MOTAT tram as a key highlight of their visit to MOTAT.  You help shape the visitor experience through your interactions with them and the enjoyable and safe service you provide.

You will learn how to:

  • Complete pre-service and end-of-service activities.
  • Coordinate passengers as they enter and leave the tram.
  • Distribute tickets and make passenger announcements.
  • Assist the Motorman in safe operation of the tram during normal service.
  • Take correct action during emergencies.

Criteria:

- You must be prepared to  join our team of keen TRAMWAY volunteers and be rostered onto the Tram service which operates everyday, except Christmas Day.

- A MOTAT Tramway Conductor must be well presented, and keen to enhance the passenger experience with clear instructions and positive interactions while maintaining safe tramway operating processes at all times.

- You must have prior knowledge of basic arithmetic.

- The MOTAT Tramway Conductor EduBit is a pre-requisite to the MOTAT Tramway Motorman EduBit.
